Too small screen

I purchased this as a web surfing computer that is small and light. After receiving it and giving it a try for a week, my wife and I both got headaches from squinting trying to focus on the screen. It was just too small for us to use comfortably. The computer worked great and seemed to be plenty fast and have plenty of memory to have multiple web pages open at once including heavy Flash games. The computer was made of good materials and seemed to be of good quality. Keep in mind that if you get any of these netbooks with extended battery life beyond 3 hours and are more than 3 cells, the battery will stick out the back about an inch. In the end we returned it and are purchasing a 13 in ultraportable for a little but more money. I suggest really trying one of these out before making a purchase to see if it is going to be right for you.

Keeps getting better

I had a Acer 150 and liked the new features of the 250. I was not disappointed.

This netbook and its battery life are just as advertised if you are just surfing the net. Adding an external disk drive halves that. You need to let the battery charge up first, then completely discharge down to nothing then recharge it to get the full 9 hours out of it. 

The netbook is light enough to use - the keyboard takes a bit to get used to. Man the screen is small! Hitting the shift key doesn’t always work LOL. 

Runs better with 2 GB memory installed. I got it with Windows XP installed to save money so I could buy the extra memory and external drive. 

I take this to doctor’s offices while I’m waiting and love how light and portable it is. 

The only negative things I can say for it is that the SPEAKERS suck and are chintzy. I could barely hear any music playing. I had to connect external battery powered speakers for portability to get a good sound. Also, a negative thing is that the 3 USB ports get used up quickly by a wireless mouse and an optical drive that is external that takes up 2 ports but that is easily solved by connecting a 4 port external USB 2.0 hub to it that is portable. 

I use this in my bedroom most of the time for chatting, checking email and doing online banking and then for traveling or waiting in doctor’s offices. It works great with a wireless broadband USB modem for those purposes. 

I have a dog at home and the netbook attracts dog hairs like crazy to it for some oddball reason. 

The webcam takes pretty good pics - even in low light but is a cheezy looking pic. 

I was pleased with the overall performance and for 0 is a nice purchase.

I ordered this item because I travel a lot and needed something to do basic computing and e-mail. This does the trick…but it’s incredibly slow and freezes a lot (I don’t have it loaded with apps either!) I don’t recommend this for people who need to use MS office products or people who don’t have the patience to wait for pages to download or things to process. One of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten

For several years I went from Laptop to Laptop but had similar issues. They really weren’t small enough or portable enough for my taste (and the ones that were had a much larger price tag than what I wanted). The battery life wasn’t quite up to par and I wanted to be able to use it for extended periods of time without plugging it in. Then I got this Acer Netbook and it was a lifesaver. 

This unit is just the right size. It’s not so big that it becomes bulky or difficult to keep on your lap but it’s not so small that you can’t see anything or utilize the keyboard. I also noticed that despite the advertised 6.5 hour battery life, I’ve been getting upwards of 8 hours out of it. I’m not a big fan of touch pads (nothing wrong with the one that’s on this unit, I just don’t like touch pads in general) so I got the Wireless Mouse M305 and now all is well. 

My only real complaint is that I wish I could expand the amount of RAM to 4 GB, as that would insure a very long life of usability. Obviously, netbooks aren’t made to be powerhouse computers and I use this for my writing, web content updating, and surfing. I have a USB DVD drive, and I have watched movies on it without an issue (this drains the battery a bit faster though) and any advanced computer functions that I need like video editing, I would use my desktop for anyway with the large screen. 

All in all, I’ve been thrilled with this netbook.

I’m in love!

All I can say is that this was the best 0 I’ve ever spent! I absolutely love this netbook. I can’t rave about it enough. I was one of those people who didn’t want a Blackberry because the print is too small. I like to read files and attachments in full size instead of on a hand-held device the size of a deck of cards. But a traditional lap top was too big and cumbersome for me to tote around. So this was the perfect compromise. It’s light and super compact and I got mine in the hot ruby red color! I use it for work (mostly basic documents and files…no heavy duty graphics or enormous data) and for home (emails, facebook, youtube, etc.) and I am super impressed with the speed, the memory and all the features (especially the intro trial period of Microsoft Office that came free with purchase). I highly recommend this product.

I bought this little Acer netbook for my 12 year old son. He LOVES IT!!!! HE CAN PLAY ON-LINE GAMES WITH HIS FRIENDS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AS WELL AS FROM HIS SCHOOL. Great Alternative!

I purchased the Acer Aspire One (AOD250-1185) for my yougest son who is a college freshman. He uses it non-stop and has no issues with the netbook whatsoever. My Wife also has the same model (in red) and also has been quite satisfied with the performance of this great alternative to a bigger, bulkier, and more expensive full size laptop. I purchased this Acer and after a few days decided I wanted to return it, I found the same netbook locally which would save me some shipping costs. Lots of bang for the buck!

This is a fun little netbook. If your looking for a bargain, you should consider this one. I bought mine from Woot.com for 5 shipped. 

If you want something to do email and browse the internet it’s perfect. But, do not buy this if you plan on running a business with it. It is slow at times and I don’t think the processor has the horsepower. I think the performance compromise is well worth the portability. 

The 6.5 hour battery (standard on this netbook) is a must have. I have the three cell battery and it doesn’t last more than about 2 hours, a major limitation for going mobile or just convenient use around the house. 

I don’t get along well with trackpads so I got a bluetooth adapter and use a bluetooth mouse without any issues. I also use my bluetooth cell phone to access the internet anywhere there’s 3G access. If you buy a model without bluetooth, you can buy a USB 2.1 micro bluetooth adapter for about -20. It’s small enough to leave in all the time. 

Mine has 1gb of RAM. I will just be doing email and browsing. Not sure if 2gb would make much difference. This model has a dedicated access panel so upgrading is really easy. Currently a 2gb upgrade will cost around .00 and anyone, yes anyone, can do it.

Just what I needed!

I purchased the Aspire One D250-1610 because of the good reviews on this site and I have not been disappointed. I needed a netbook solely for connectivity….as an extra link to the Internet at home when all the desktops were in use by the kids, or as a way to check my e-mail when traveling, and this little beauty does everything quickly and easily. I was amazed how simple the setup was, and the netbook immediately recognized my home network. The connection is very fast. 

I’ve only had the Aspire for 4 days, but I love it already! It’s a great netbook for the price you pay!

One of the best gifts I ever bought…

I bought this for my significant other for her birthday last year, and I have to say that the Acer Aspire One netbook was one of the best gift purchases I’ve ever made. It’s also one of the most used. I love getting up on weekends and seeing her using the little pink netbook that could (and does) while sipping on her morning coffee. 

From a hardware perspective, the Aspire One is more than capable for most normal uses. The 1.6Ghz Atom CPU isn’t going to win any speed contests at this point, but it is fast enough for most uses. If you just want the netbook to surf the net, edit the occasional document and check e-mail, then it’s more than fast enough. You do get some stuttering when it comes to video, largely because of an underpowered graphics processing unit (in this case an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, which doesn’t do a very good job of accelerating), but with a screen of this side, video watching isn’t going to be one of the better uses anyways. 

This model comes with a hard drive and not one of the new solid-state drives. While this sacrifices speed and durability, the extra storage space (160GB) is worth the trade-off in my opinion. That’s more than enough space for a computer that’s going to be used mostly as a web terminal. You won’t need all that storage for movies and games (although it does actually play some older games relatively well). 

The build quality is also very good and all the expected features are here. The built-in WiFi has worked without a hitch, there are two card-reader slots available to you and there are three USB ports, more than enough room to expand. The screen is top-notch, despite its size, and the video quality is vibrant and colorful. The keyboard is good, although the touch pad can be finnicky thanks to the right edge of it performing as a scrollwheel would. I use a wireless mouse whenever I use it for any length of time, but she gets along with the touchpad almost exclusively. I probably just have fat fingers… 

Basically the Acer Aspire One AOA150 is a functional and durable netbook that’s been serving double duty for my significant other and myself for over a year now. It hasn’t missed a beat and I’d recommend it. The pink model makes a particularly good gift for special someones…

this little guy is great. i got it in white with a 6 cell battery for about 0. i have it for about 8 months and i literally use it every day. yes i did have to buy a cd burner to attach but that was only about . this netbook does everything i need and its so portable. i like it better than my previouse full sized hp laptop. very very happy with my acer aspire one.

Great value! lightweight and speedy. No real upgrades though

First off, ill go with the cons, and there arnt that many. 

upgrading the ram is MUCH dissecting, im a technician and i would NOT recommend anyone to upgrade the ram themselves. ALSO there is only 1 ram slot, …so if you had an extra half gig chip of DDR2 notebook ram lying around, you wont be able to put it in to bring this baby up to its “1.5 gig max” 

the Hard drive is connected but practically EMBEDDED into the motherboard,.. and like getting to the ram slot, you will need to take nearly EVERYTHING out of the casing and then flip the motherboard over after disconnecting all the tiny little cables. 

All of this might sound like im bashing it, but in all honesty im not, im just pointing out what to expect if you plan to upgrade the unit. for example…installing a SSHD or..a bigger ram chip. 
(personally i would have preferred a 2gig max, not 1.5) 

ok with that aside ill go into its PROS.. 

this little laptop has a BEAUTIFUL LED display! Very clear and colorful. its also FAST the Intel Atom processor runs great..and just in case your wondering..it can do some 3d Games! my friend uses this to play WORLD OF WARCRAFT..and Fiesta online! (grafx are scaled down of course..but both games are playable) 

the hard drive space at 160 gigs is monstrous!!!! loaded up with 100 DVD quality movies its the perfect thing to keep you busy for a while. 

The keyboard is MUCH better in size than some of the other netbooks i have seen ..and it saddens to say it, because i am a ASUS fanboy…the keyboard is better than the ASUS..easier to type on.

Exactly what I needed

Let me start by saying that you should make sure a netbook is right for you before you make this purchase. Once you’ve decided to go with a netbook over a notebook–this one is perfect! 

From the ones I tried out in the big box stores, Acer has the biggest keyboard unless you go with a solid state hard drive. That being said, the keyboard will take a day or two to get used to–but it happens fast. 

The battery life is between 2-3 hours. The power cord is small enough that it is easy to pack along with you, if you need to. 

Built-in wireless card has no problems picking up signals. 

All-in-all, this netbook is exactly what I needed. And it’s the same size as a normal hardback book, so it’s very easy to take anywhere. I would defiantly recommend it

One of the best gifts that I bought …

I bought this for my significant other for her birthday last year and I have to say the netbook Acer Aspire One was one of the best gift shop I have done. It is also one of the most used. I love my weekends and when I saw the little pink netbook that can (and does) while sipping your morning coffee.

First of all, go wrong with the Contras, and many do not Arnt.

RAM Upgrade dissection is MUCH, I am a technician and I would not recommend anyone to update their own ram. ALSO there is only one RAM slot … so if you had an extra concert half chip of RAM DDR2 laptop around, you not be able to put this baby to bring up its “maximum 1.5 concert”

the hard drive is connected, but virtually embedded on the motherboard .. and how to get to the slot RAM, you have to have almost everything in the box and then rotate the base plate after removing all the tiny wires.

All this may sound like I’m hitting, but im not all honestly, I’m just shows what you can expect if you plan to upgrade the unit. … eg the installation of a SSHD or bigger ram chip …
(personally would have preferred a maximum 2gig, No. 1, 5)

this small laptop has an LED display BEAUTIFUL! Very clear and colorful. FAST also its Intel Atom processor .. runs great and just in case your question .. you can do some 3d games! my friend used to play World of Warcraft online .. and Fiesta! (Grafx reduced, of course. . but both games are playable)

hard drive space 160 gigs is too ridiculous! loaded with 100 movies in DVD quality of the perfect thing to keep you busy for a while.

The keyboard is much better in the size of some of the other netbooks I’ve seen .. and that saddens me, because I’m a fanboy … the keyboard is better than ASUS ASUS easier than writing .. on.

I bought this netbook in February and is still faster and more efficient as it was when I took it out of the box. “I can take with me to the library every time I go so you can access the wireless network my own machine, plus I’ve taken on holiday because it is very portable. Also, I do all my work in graduate school in this little machine. still boots quickly and is able to run multiple applications simultaneously. My favorite things on this team are its portability, decent battery life, and the cute pink.

I love this team and the price! I would never have thought of buying an Acer, but I disappointed yet. I have read reviews online and in comparison with the Sony mini netbook (which only rated three stars and 0). When we got him, my husband was up and running in less than ten minutes. It’s that easy! Less than 0 and work as well as my husband’s Sony laptop size. The speed and everything is the same, except the size, of course. I prefer to use the mouse that comes with it. I find it easier and my hands the keys fits perfectly. I’m a mom who does not need anything high-tech … pay bills, email, Web search, downlaod pictures and help my daughter do book reports. The battery life is not a concern for me because most of the time plugged in, but when he does travel with me do not need a bulky bag. Fits perfectly in a pocket. This netbook and its battery life are just as advertised if you are just surfing the net. Adding an external disk drive halves that. You need to let the battery charge up first, then completely discharge down to nothing then recharge it to get the full 9 hours out of it. 

The netbook is light enough to use - the keyboard takes a bit to get used to. Man the screen is small! Hitting the shift key doesn’t always work LOL. 

Runs better with 2 GB memory installed. I got it with Windows XP installed to save money so I could buy the extra memory and external drive. 

I take this to doctor’s offices while I’m waiting and love how light and portable it is. 

The only negative things I can say for it is that the SPEAKERS suck and are chintzy. I could barely hear any music playing. I had to connect external battery powered speakers for portability to get a good sound. Also, a negative thing is that the 3 USB ports get used up quickly by a wireless mouse and an optical drive that is external that takes up 2 ports but that is easily solved by connecting a 4 port external USB 2.0 hub to it that is portable. 

I use this in my bedroom most of the time for chatting, checking email and doing online banking and then for traveling or waiting in doctor’s offices. It works great with a wireless broadband USB modem for those purposes. 

I have a dog at home and the netbook attracts dog hairs like crazy to it for some oddball reason. 

The webcam takes pretty good pics - even in low light but is a cheezy looking pic. 

I was pleased with the overall performance and for 0 is a nice purchase.

Nice!!

This is my 3rd netbook and is by far the best. It came with Windows XP, but I installed Ubuntu Linux and have loved it since. It has buttons to turn bluetooth and wireless on/off. The battery life is phenominal, I have gotten over 7 hrs. and still had some juice left. This netbook is a must have.

Awesome Netbook!

Bought this netbook. Price was extremely cheap so I jumped on it. First of all, this unit is beautiful. The Blue finish really is fantastic. The black bezel inside along with blue makes it look quite nice. 

Pros: 
-9-Cell Battery. Measured over 7 hours of use when having constant internet gaming(Runescape), using a bluetooth mouse and brightest brightness on screen. 
-Super Bright screen. I was slightly worried about screen being dim, but it is extremely bright, very pleased. 
-Windows XP - Proven OS, and no extra money needed to upgrade to 7 Home or whatever. 
-Great wireless, better reception that my large laptop. 
-Once bloatware removed, very quick. Can do some basic multitasking with ease. 

Cons: 
-No back up CD’s. Must get external drive to burn copy of OS to CD and drivers. Minor annoyance. Most people get external drive anyways. 
-Wish it was free? 

Great netbook, very happy with it.

Great for it’s use

The Acer 1955 Netbook is just what I was looking for. I had only one problem that was easily rectified. The mouse pad stopped working on the third day of use. I had to reinstall the drivers. Other then that I recommend it to anyone. Good deal Good product.
